CAP Centre opens for WHITLEY BAY & Area
A new centre for Christians Against Poverty (CAP), the national debt counselling charity, is now serving the local area including Whitley Bay, North Shields and Shiremoor, in partnership with Acorn Community Church.
CAP offers hope and a solution to anyone in debt through its free, unique, in-depth service.
CAP aims to show God’s love in action by providing sustainable poverty relief through debt counselling, advice and practical help and offers its service to the whole community irrespective of religious belief. CAP’s unique ‘hands on’ approach empowers people to help themselves out of poverty and be released from the fear, oppression and worry generated by overwhelming debts. We are providing sustainable poverty relief as our service teaches clients vital budgeting skills that will last a lifetime.
‘The worst thing someone in debt can do is stay silent, so anyone in financial difficulty in the area is urged to contact CAP on 0800 328 0006. Being in debt is nothing to be ashamed of and CAP aims to work with clients to provide a lasting solution.’
The service is free and aims to bring God’s love and hope into otherwise hopeless situations. 90% of clients say that since becoming involved with CAP, their lives have changed for the better.
Prior to our help many clients would, as a result of debt, experience:
- Missing meals – 67%
- Fear of threatening creditors, telephone calls, knocks on the door – 80%
- Suicidal thoughts – 34%, with 6% actually attempting to do so
- On medication for depression and related illnesses – 41%
- Relationship breakdown – 17%
Matt Barlow, UK CEO, Christians Against Poverty, said:
‘We have every confidence that the local community in the Whitley Bay area will soon feel the benefits of having a CAP centre on their doorstep.’
