Acorn Community Church

Acorn Connects
Acorn Connects is about extending a helping hand to people who need pastoral care and practical support, beginning with those who are already connected to the church but with the aim to increasingly serve the wider community.

Acorn Connects provides spiritual, emotional and practical help on request. This might include support for single parents, volunteers helping people to move house, visiting those who are unable to get to church regularly, giving care to individuals who are seriously ill by doing household chores.

Acorn Connects has a growing bank of volunteers who are experienced, trained and suitable to support individuals via visits.

Acorn Connects ensures that there is a thorough needs assessment of each person visited and that volunteers are suitably matched according to their skills and preferences.

‘Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?”
(Romans 15:1&2 The Message)

Guiding Principles

Through demonstrating the love of God as it motivates us to serve others, we will:

  • Provide help of a quality which is safe, caring and practical
  • Ensure that such help is accessible to all connected to the church when needed
  • Respect the individual’s right to choice and self determination
  • Ensure appropriate training of all volunteers
  • Ensure appropriate support for all volunteers
  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times
