Acorn Community Church

It is a policy of Acorn Community Church to give a percentage of the church’s income each year to various organisations, charities and individuals who are seeking to relieve suffering or to advance God’s purposes by serving others. Here are some of the causes that we give regular financial support and personnel to:

Rev. Harold & Ruth Menzies (In Kenya)
For the past 10 years Acorn members Harold & Ruth Menzies have been developing a theological education training programme for church leaders in Kenya (Harold) – and assist in school literacy work (Ruth) under the auspices of Elim International Missions. Since 2005 over 1,000 people have enrolled on the leadership course in regional centres including Nairobi, Naivasha, Voi, Kitale and Othaya. It is a basic course in Biblical Christianity, with an African perspective.

Youth For Christ – North East
Youth for Christ has been operating in the north east of England for over 40 years, with a commitment to taking the Good News relevantly to young people. YFC North East are currently reaching young people through: Rock Solid, RS2, Mettle groups, IXth Hour, Wired and sports ministry.

M10 Missions (Director – Stephen Riley)
M10 Missions is a registered charity with Christian based values; recruiting and providing dynamic training for 16-25 yr olds. It enhances their leadership and life skills development through engagement and opportunity in overseas relief projects. Although Christian based, M10 invites young people from youth groups and schools – which include those with a strong Christian faith but also those who are still searching. The main focus in recent years has been house building and youth work in Ensenada (Mexico).

Eden North East (Director – Phil Glover)
Eden NE partners with local churches in the region, recruiting teams of dedicated youth workers, committed to making a difference to the places where they live. Eden team members move into forgotten neighborhoods where crime and antisocial behavior are the norm, bringing the love of Jesus and the hope of transformation. There are currently 4 Eden partnerships in the north east: Blyth, Southwick (Sunderland), Easterside, Ragworth (Teeside). Eden is a national ministry of The Message Trust.

New CAP Regional Manager
We would like to congratulate Acorn’s Julia Wilthew on extending her role with CAP (Christians Against Poverty) – as she will also now oversee the development of CAP in the north east region. This is a reflection of her hard work and success in helping many people out of debt in Whitley Bay and area over the past 5 years. We are delighted as a church to support the valuable mission of CAP in North Tyneside and the region as a whole.
